Quotes

Alberto Santilli, CEO of Toyota Motor Italia: “Once again we are at the side of RCS MediaGroup to provide all our experience in the field of sustainable mobility. We will do this by accompanying the Giro with cars that concretely demonstrate the multi-technology approach that Toyota pursues in its electrification strategy. A strategy that sees the coexistence of Full Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, Full Electric and Fuel Cell technologies powered by hydrogen. It is a commitment in line with our ‘Let’s go Beyond’ vision, whose ambition is to develop technologies and services that guarantee freedom of movement for all, to achieve a more sustainable, safe and inclusive society”.

Urbano Cairo, President of RCS MediaGroup: “The partnership between RCS and Toyota, a prestigious brand recognised around the world, continues and is further strengthened under the banner of quality and sustainability. The use of hybrid and electric vehicles in our races contributes concretely to strengthening the green model that we are promoting and supporting also through partnerships and collaborations. Having brands like Toyota in the Giro family once again confirms the vocation and strong international presence of our race”.

Toyota will be present at the Giro d’Italia 2024 with its entire electrified range, with a fleet of over 60 cars, accompanying the races through the most beautiful locations in Italy, helping to make the Giro even more sustainable. A fleet in which all technologies will be the protagonists, from Full Hybrid technology to Plug-in Hybrid via Toyota’s Full Electric with bZ4X to the Fuel Cell technology of the hydrogen-powered Mirai.

The protagonist of the 107^ edition of the Giro d’Italia will be the New Toyota C-HR, the crossover designed in Europe that stands out for its cutting-edge design, advanced technologies and a proposal of both Full Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid powertrains. The latter has a range that allows you to travel up to 96 km in EV mode with zero emissions in the urban context (WLTP urban cycle), compatible with almost every usual daily use. When the battery power is depleted, the vehicle continues to take advantage of the native characteristics of its Full-Hybrid system, with the highest levels of efficiency in terms of fuel consumption and emissions and full freedom of movement without constraints related to the charging infrastructure.

The new Toyota C-HR is available with a range of four electrified versions (1.8 Full Hybrid, 2.0 Full Hybrid FWD and AWD-i, 2.0 Plug-in Hybrid FWD), a choice that underlines Toyota’s path towards an increasingly multi-technology range aimed to decarbonisation.

Toyota will also be the protagonist of the Giro-E with the Toyota bZ4X Full Electric model, which will accompany the athletes during the stages. The new bZ4X is the first model in Toyota’s new range of battery electric vehicles and brings true SUV off-road capabilities to the BEV market for the first time. During the Time-trial challenges, the second generation of the Mirai, Toyota’s zero-emission electric flagship, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, will also accompany the races.

The fleet is completed by the RAV4, in the Full Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid versions, and the Corolla Cross, cars capable of combining performance with high energy efficiency and extremely low climate-altering and polluting emissions.

Last year, Toyota’s Full Hybrid fleet had already recorded performance at the highest level, traveling along the roads of the event in stages in zero-emission mode for more than 50% of the time, testifying to the great contribution that Toyota’s electrified technologies can make to environmental protection and sustainable mobility.

The collaboration with Giro d’Italia confirms Toyota’s closeness to the world of sport and is in line with Toyota ‘Let’s Go Beyond’ vision, which aims to create a better society. Let’s Go Beyond aims at a mobility model that places people at the center, where zero emissions are not the goal, but a step on the path towards an inclusive, sustainable and safe society, in which no one is left behind, thanks to the development of sustainable and accessible mobility solutions for all.
