Giro-E Enel 2026 – Stage 14 Tione di Trento – Andalo

27/05/2026

Stage 14 of Giro-E Enel 2026 got under way on the final section of today’s Giro stage. From Tione di Trento to Andalo, exactly 50 kilometres with 1,200 metres of climbing.

Trentino, mountains, fresh air: cycling here is a treat. We’re in the home of the Sheriff, Francesco Moser, the most successful Italian cyclist of all time with 273 professional wins in his career. His home, Palu di Giovo, is as far from the start as the finish is.

The active tourism in the area means that walking and cycling come naturally here. It’s a land of good food and good wine. Canederli, bread dumplings flavoured with speck or cheese, are the perfect dish after a day on the trails of the Dolomites, as are strangolapreti, green dumplings made with spinach and served with melted butter and sage. Also worth trying is tortel de patate, a speciality made from grated potatoes, fried until golden and crispy.

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to wine. From Teroldego to Marzemino, and Gewurztraminer to Muller Thurgau, you can’t go wrong.

Tione di Trento is a typical Trentino village. Known for its traditional craft of candle-making, it is situated in the heart of the Giudicarie between Val Rendena and Valle del Chiese, surrounded by the Adamello and Brenta mountains.  It is traditionally called “la Busa” (the hole or pit), due to the green valley in which the village lies, through which the River Sarca and the Arno flow. It was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1895 but was rebuilt, managing to retain its historic charm.

Even before you arrive, Lake Molveno, with its small beaches and well-equipped lidos, tempts you to return when you have more free time. On its shores stands, amongst other things, the ancient Venetian sawmill of Tajalacqua (16th century), a reminder of the days when the local people worked and sold timber from these forests to the Venetian Republic or to the shipyards on nearby Lake Garda. Andalo is just a stone’s throw away, with its magnificent views of the Paganella and the Brenta Dolomites: a fitting end to an unforgettable day.

The Tione di Trento-Andalo stage

Up and down through the valley, with a final climb at Andalo-Lever (nothing too strenuous, just a Category 3 climb), before hurtling down the final descent and crossing the finish line in Andalo.

It was an eventful stage today for the e-bike riders. While there were no particularly tough climbs, it was still a demanding ride due to the cumulative elevation gain.

Personality of the day – Giorgio Rocca

He has the build of a Keirin (Japanese track cycling) rider, but when it comes to cycling through the mountains, Giorgio Rocco does not shy away. Winner of the slalom World Cup in 2006 and holder of three world championship medals in the same discipline, Giorgio had already had the pleasure of electric-assisted cycling at the Giro-E. He did so again yesterday during the stage in Switzerland, his home country. The son of an Italian father and Swiss mother, he was born in Chur in the Canton Grisons.

“How was the ride? Amazing! It’s a great experience, because you don’t feel under crazy stress, but you still feel part of the competition. The guests were able to experience the emotions of the Giro and see Ticino in a different light. I trained a lot here 20 years ago when I was racing. As you’re used to driving up to a place, you don’t realise how steep it is until you cycle up it on a bike like we did yesterday. The last ten kilometres were tough, and it was also very hot. It was nice because at the top, the people of Ticino were buzzing. It wasn’t just cycling fans that enjoyed the event, everyone did. There were lots of people and everyone was in a good mood. Having lived in Ticino for many years, especially after my career, I felt right at home.”
